Apollo Calgary

Another great organization is Apollo, (friends in sport) which is a local gay sports league. They run a wide variety of sports leagues around the city, year round. Here is their site

CNC - Calgary Networking Club

Another great event which I have been going to lately is the Calgary Networking Club or CNC for short. It is sponsored by Calgary Outlink and meets the first Tuesday of each month from 5-7pm

Location: Ming (tapas restaurant) which is on the north side of 17th ave between 4th & 5th.

Cost: $10 which gets you some appetizers and a recipt (tax exemption?)

They used to bring in a guest speaker each month but they have changed to format somewhat to allow for more time to chat and mix with the other members. It's a lot of fun and a good way to meet fellow professionals within our community.

Calgary Queer Book Club

As mentioned in my earlier post, there was some discussion regarding setting up a Queer Book club in the city, well here it is! (on facebook) search for Calgary Queer Book Club (two words, sorry, I am too tech-lame to figure out how to link it).

Wednesday Coffee Night at Weeds Cafe

For those of you interested, a group has been meeting at Weeds Cafe on 20th ave NW each Wednesday night for coffee and conversation. I must commend John Iocchelli and Sadie Kay for their leadership in getting this group going. There has also been some discussion about creating a community book club which would meet on the last wednesday each month as part of the current group. The info is below.

Every Wednesday 6-9PM
Weeds Cafe,
1903 20 Avenue NW
(403) 282-7940

Welcome

While out at a weekly coffee night last week, there was some discussoin about the lack of information sharing/dessimation within the queer community in Calgary. It was suggested that perhaps a blog be set up to help with this. So, that is what I did. I hope to accomplished a few key things here.

1) Post events
2) Allow different community groups to be co-ordinate with eachother
3) Engage our community in discussion.

All I ask is that everyone treats everyone else with respect. We are too small a community to fight eachother. Here's to building a stronger community!
